How to Count the Omer

At sunset, the beginning of the Jewish day, when it is definitely recites this blessing in English and/or Hebrew:

Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us to count the Omer.
In Hebrew: “Barukh atah, A-donai E-loheinu, Melekh Ha-ʿolam, asher qid’shanu b’mitzvotav v’tzivanu ʿal S’firat Ha-ʿomer.”

Then say the Omer count in terms of both total days and weeks and days. For example:

“Today is one day of the omer”

On the eighth day (the first day of each of the seven weeks of the Omer) say:

“Today is eight days, which is one week and one day of the omer”

If you wake up the next day having forgot to count the Omer in the evening, then you may still count the Omer but without reciting the blessing. If you forgot to count a day, don’t worry. Continue counting on the succeeding day but without saying the blessing.

On each day of Counting the Omer, we will read a passage from the Book of Exodus and devotion according to the chart below.

There are many books, devotionals and guides for Counting the Omer. Below are three books we have used in previous years.
